>Is the CUDA (button/switch) a small round grey button >(3mm dia) on a small aluminium casing (8mm x 8mm) ?
Yes >What do I do ? > >Press it ? and then what ? Then run like crazy, as you have 30 seconds to get to minimum safe distance of 1/4 mile, or you will be vaporized along with all other bio-organic material when the patented "Apple Death Ray" fires. :-) (ok, actually the CUDA button does a deep PRAM reset. It basically wipes all stored hardware info the Mac has, so the next time the Mac is powered up, it is forced to repoll all hardware to determine settings. Its good for when you install or remove hardware and the Mac isn't changing its settings to match, or if you have other odd hardware glitches that may keep you from booting. For the most part it is harmless to press the button, however it bears mentioning that from what I understand, you can only zap the settings a limited number of times before the Mac won't store the info anymore... that number is supposed to be in the range of 1000, so the occasional press won't be an issue... but I wouldn't sit there tapping it... also some hardware glitches I've heard can be "set in stone" if you press the button when they are happening... the example I was given was the "Jaguar Firmware Screen Glitch", if you fail to update the firmware before installing Jaguar, and your screen goes screwy, if you hit the CUDA you risk making the screwed up screen permanent) -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
