From: "Dennis B. Swaney" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Any ideas on what he should do next? Since it is still under warranty and it was APPLE software (Software Update and Mac OS 10.2.8 Update) that caused the problem, I keep telling him to take it to an Apple repair shop.
That's good advice, though I highly doubt it was 10.2.8 that actually caused the problem. Mostly likely, the problem was already there and would have caused problems at the next update regardless of what you were updating to. I've noticed that system updates tend to cause existing problems to become worse.
At this point, I'd say DiscWarrior is the next-to-last-stop before the Apple Store, but since it's in warranty you may not want to spend the money. Simply back up the damaged HD by connecting it to another Mac via Firewire and backup the important stuff, then send it in.
