FWIW, my 2� worth on VPC is W2Kpro is the smoothest running. You're absolutely right. It's not a suitable platform for any kind of gaming, however, for general tasks it's acceptably functional. I run it on a dual 867 MDD and with a emulated drive with 512 RAM it runs very comparable to P3 in the 6-700 MHz range.
