I've just signed on because I'm on a quest for a Mac for my sister.
She's volunteered to scan and organise about 2000 35 mm slides for Dad.
Dad's offered to fund a scanner and a computer for the job.
I'm supposed to select a scanner and computer and arrange the actual purchase.
Martha is living in a small apartment in Santa Barbara so I was thinking of a Powerbook (something faster than my Lombard 400).
The I saw one of the "flat panel" iMacs at our library.
It takes less space than a laptop and offers more power per dollar than a TiBook. She's not going to travel with it so portability's not an issue.
It also gets points for aesthetics, the pivoting display is way cool (she's an artist).
So I've been looking at the early models, 700 MHz should be fast enough for Graphic Converter (or iPhoto) and they all seem to come with CD burners.
Any thoughts?
Any models to look for (or avoid)?
Thanks
