That happens to my old 800 MHz G4 PCI clone about two or three times a month, but its
an old 1997 Daystar computer with OSX10.2.8 and lots of hardware and software stuff
running on it that it was never designed to handle, so I can't complain. I get a dark
Curtain of Death descend slowly from the top of the Desktop to the bottom with a
Rosetta stone white box in the middle with the bad news in several different
languages. It does tend to happen right after startup if there was a problem loading
resources but it also happens if I have too many programs open too long. Better run
the Disk Repair program from the Disk Utility and you'd better repair permissions. And
save often. I've never heard of it happening on an iMac before.
