Oh, it also makes quite a difference as to overall performance if you set the Energy Saving option to 'Highest' rather than 'Automatic'. And so far it is not triggering off the fans (just doing email/browsing/word processing). In the benchmarking test, the CPU scored 90 on 'Automatic' and 162.29 on 'Highest'. When launching Word, on 'Automatic' it takes two dock bounces (just like on the G4 iMac), but only one bounce on 'Highest', and just about everything else is faster.
So it was definitely a question of changing from the default 'Automatic' to the more daring 'Highest'.
Now things feel very zippy inded!
