My iMac Rev B 233Mhz OS 9.2.2 with 160 MB Ram has been shutting down frequently, in various programs, sometimes in the middle of a keystroke. Possibly related, sometimes the keyboard (and of course the mouse) simply stops. This is immediately preceded by faint clicking of the drive at work (the same clicking heard when opening a program or document within an app).
I turned on "Show Balloons" in the Finder, then opened "About This Computer" under the Apple. When the cursor is hovered on the memory bar next to the Mac OS icon, the ballon reports that, "This program is currently using 33.4 MB out of the 33.4 MB reserved for it." I suspect that that is the reason for the physical difficulties: it needs more memory assigned to it. I probably should know this, but how do I increase memory allocated to the OS? Also, should memory allocated to apps follow any rule? Thank you! -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
