Eddie, here in Fayetteville we have SPRINT fast connect and I have almost all my macs on a ASANTE 4 port router. from the DSL modem to the router should be an ethernet cat5 connection. the router here has to be set up PPPoE with your IP settings. I have never had any problems. Any service provider says they don't support macs is full of crap. They are communicating with your system using TCP/IP protocal (open standard) there should not be a problem.
