Hello listers,
I'm new to this list and I need your opinion and help. I got my two
teenage daughters one iMac G3/400 128M RAM and a new iPod shuffle to
each of them. Later I found out that the iPod requires iTunes
version 4 something and OS 10.2.8 or higher. The iMac is running on
9.2.1, which means they can't use the iPod on their computer. I got
Apple's original installer CDs for Jaguar and Panther. My questions
are:
1. Which one would run better on the iMac G3/400, currently with
128M but I have an extra 256M chip to add;
256Mb is about the minimum I'd recommend. I have a machine now that
has 128Mb (512Mb on order) and it works but switching apps is quite
slow. And I haven't really pushed it.
2. What version firmware should be installed on the machine and,
4.1.9
Make sure you have 4.1.9 installed BEFORE booting from the OS X
installer disk. You can render the computer inoperative if you don't.
3. How do I find out what firmware version is installed now.
Apple System Profiler at the bottom under Production Information.
