It has nothing to do with what is powerful and fast today. It has to do with what will be powerful and fast tomorrow. Laptop sales are increasing quickly. Intel has a VERY VERY nice portable line of chips (low power, cool, and fast). IBM has no plans to make the G5 laptop capable. IBM also has no plans to keep speed bumping the G5. MS's XBox and Sony's PS3 will both be using G5 versions. Multiple in each unit. They won't care about speed bumps, and they will buy far far more chips then Apple. The fact is, today the G5 might be the best, but by this time next year, it won't be. It will be badly behind the times. That is fine with IBM because they have customers lined up that don't care. That isn't fine with Apple because they need to be on the cutting edge. Intel can provide that cutting edge. In the end, all that really matters is... does the Mac OS run? Does it do what it does today? And it is fast enough to keep up with (or out pace) Windows?
