I am trying to upgrade Adobe 5 so that I might print ePatterns for
my bride. When I download a pattern, the desktop shows a file named
"boomframe" etc., not a pdf. When I download Adobe Reader upgrade,

I certainly would appreciate any suggestions, at least those in good taste.
First, have you done a Get Info on the downloaded "pdf" to see what
type file it is actually?
Second, have you tried opening the file using OS 10s built-in pdf
viewer Preview?
Third, you really need to upgrade the Mac OS; you are three
generations out of date. If you can't go to Mac OS 10.4.x, then try
Mac OS 10.3.9, or Mac OS 10.2.8
Fourth, if you have to use Adobe Reader, have you tried the current
version, Reader 7?
If you really need to use Reader 5, try this: Control-Click on the
ar.505.enu.bin file and select "Open with" then select either Stuffit
Expander or whatever version of Stuffit you have on your Mac.
