You may be just basically misunderstanding Appleworks >> Spell check does not work
Make sure you understand that Appleworks doesn't underline incorrect words like Word. Instead you have to press the icon with and a..z with a tick above, or Edit>Writing Tools>Check Document Spelling... >> Dictionary just offers very basic words/definitions This is probably just because this is what it does. If you type in glaring and right click it (control click if you don't have a two button mouse) and click thesaurus you should get the following options. Conspicuously bad or offensive > rank, gross, flagrant, arrant adj. Extremely bright > brilliant, blazing, dazzling v. To look intently and fixedly > eye, gaze, peer, glare, stare, gape, ogle, goggle v.
