Because Photoshop has not been converted to Universal Binary format yet. 
So it has to run thru the Rosetta translator first. That slows it down.

On top of that, Rosetta doesn't handle G4 and G5 specific instructions 
(like the "velocity engine"), so all the stuff in Photoshop that is 
optimized to use a G4 if present, will now have to run in non optimized 
G3 mode.


This problem will go away when Adobe finishes the conversion to Universal 
Binary. Then everything will run native on the Intel processor and will 
be able to bypass the translation bottlenecks.
