I sought it in knowledge base and got do-it-yourself instructions only on the G5 models.
What makes you think this is available for G4??
(thanks)

I now have two 15" G4 "volley-ball" iMacs. One has a brand new HD installed by applestore but it's logic board is faulty. The other's logic board (with more RAM) is in better shape.
How hard is it to swap out the HDs?

Not too difficult.

There should be step-by-step directions in Apple's kbase.
