I have an iMac DV with the connector at the back to connect a second
mirrored monitor. A friend has an XP machine that has a card that allows
him to run an S-Video cable to his home entertainment system so that he can
watch multimedia files on his television. We're wondering if it is possible
to do the same thing with the iMac using the connector at the back. If it
is possible, what sort of hardware/cabling will I need to make this thing
work?

At my daughter's school each classroom has just such an arrangement. The VGA from the iMac goes to converter box, I think they are made by Focus. There are both S-Video and Composite outputs.
