Hi Daniel,

I just had the exact same thing happen with a Mac Mini.  The only
reason I did not post in response to your question is because I
thought you said the display was not responding.  My monitor was still
working.

My Mini would not boot.  Even got the DiskWarrior cd stuck to the
point where it could not be ejected in open firmware.  New hd fixed
the problem completely.  Fortunately, it was still under AppleCare and
I had a backup.   Best of luck getting back up and running.
