Now that I have received my new Seagate FW external drive & am
awaiting the delivery of Tiger (seemed like a good time to upgrade),
I was hoping to get some advice on the best way to go about setting
it up. I haven't used an external HD before, but what I am thinking
is to install Tiger on the HD & then back up my iMac before
upgrading it to Tiger. I was thinking to partition it...one for my
iMac & another for my PowerBook from work. How do I go about
partitioning (also new to me)? Ideally, I would like to be able to
boot from the HD, in case of a real problem. Will it set up
automatically or do I need to do something specific? Finally, it
came with BounceBack software. Can anyone comment on that?
Partition the drive from within Drive Utility.
Back up your Mac *first*. Then add new OS.
No idea re "BounceBack". I like CarbonCopyCloner and SuperDuper.
CCC makes bootable copies; highly reliable. And on bombich's web
site you can learn how to use the ditto command for yourself - a
powerful tool.
