Hi I have an Iomega 128MB Mini USB drive which I have had for about 10 years, it is still going strong, it has outlived many other USB drives.
Since the move to OSX (back in 10.1) it has been formatted to HFS+ and it is used every day. Don't see how HFS+ can shorten the life of a drive.
