Well, I'm planning on doing that eventually, but we probably won't start looking to actually buy for a month or two; just wanted to get some different opinions, and suggestions. :)

The best generalized rule for buying computers I've ever come to (after nearly 20 years in this biz) is:

"Buy the most computer your budget allows."

Determine how much you're willing or able to spend, and get the newest, fastest, most memory/hard disk, screen size, etc. you can with that money.

Decide what features are crucial to you and focus on them. (is it processing power? Large screen? Ease of transport? etc.)

Once you have a budget, and a target, then we can better point you to where to get a 'best deal'.
