That is a very good start with good habits.

But an advantage of separating the bootable backup from the TM backup
is that when one of those external drives fails, you still have the
other one available.  Also, it is best to connect the bootable backup
drive to the computer ONLY when actually doing the backup or a
recovery.  Disconnect it from both the machine and AC power when it is
not running.  I clone three or four Macs to separate, bootable
partitions on a drive about once a week.  Some folks do it more
frequently.  Some folks keep two bootable backup drives, having one
off-site in case of calamity at home base.

By its nature, a TM external drive is connected to both the computer
and AC power at all times, making it vulnerable to lightning and power
hits.  I have all four Macs running TM to a Time Capsule.
