There is indeed a way to do that using a program called
ScreenRecycler, but it requires a working computer, not a broken one.
Sorry, but apparently it can't be done.

Although I wonder --if the screen works, and your HDD works, and FW
Target Disk Mode works, then what's wrong with the iMac? It seems to
be working fine.
