The hard drive shouldn't have anything to do with a power supply that's stopped working because the power supplies supply a regulated 3.3, 5 and 12 volt current to the SATA power connector and a specific amperage (5 amps if I recall correctly). I'm not sure about which power supply you need though because Apple used so many different parts for different models I can't keep up (and the newest iMac I've repaired is a 400 MHz G3).
