This may be more "involved" than you care to get, but figured I'd pass
the info along anyway in case it was useful to someone else.

Microsoft provides a program you can use to test the input from a
keyboard. The program is not provided directly, but instead is
included as part of the IntelliType software for that MS line of
computers.

You can download the software and install it from, for example, this link
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/wireless-comfort-keyboard

Just be sure to select the version of Windows which matches what your
PC will be/is using. Once the software is installed search for and run
"mskey.exe". (If you have Windows 7 then just type mskey into the
search box of the Start Menu.)

The keyboard test software is mentioned near the bottom of the article
in a section with the title "The wrong characters are typed".
