Hmmmmm. Do you have recovery disks or any kind of installation media? If so, you can check the SMART status of the drive, and if it is OK, you can attempt to reinstall OS X. If SMART reports drive errors, replace the HDD. If a reinstall does not work, I would guess the HDD or possibly the RAM.
