iMac 9,1 w/Sierra-brightness not working

Hi all,

I have an Early 2009 iMac that was running El Capitan. I used the Sierra
Patcher to install Sierra (10.12.5) on this machine (not supported by
Apple).

The install seems to be working fine with one exception--I no longer have
control of the Brightness on the screen--either through the keyboard or
through the system prefs.

After searching the Sierra Patcher info and other internet forums, I can
see that this is an issue with this particular iMac--especially if the
display have been replaced previously. I have NOT replaced mine, and still
have my original display.

Ihave found some workarounds (install Brightness Slider), but no real fix.
Brightness Slider works, but it has to be adjusted each time I (or any
member of my family logs in.

>From further reading, it sounds like there may be another solution that may
require a higher technical proficiency than I have. However, I am hoping
that someone can explain the solution so that I can follow it and implement
it. Or perhaps someone can point me to a place that clearly explains how to
fix this.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Joe
