Hi Everyone:
I dont think I am as knowledgable as some of you are but I'll add a few
points here.
I think another important aespect of On-line sales is that of search
economies. Search economies are tho one half of the new convenience
equation. Fulfillment is the other half. The goal is not just to minimize
the hassle of finding a product( in case of amazon, books) but to minimize
the hassle of getting it as well.) I personally think that search economies
has a major role to play here and let me elaborate the concept of search
economies. Lets say you are looking for a book about Islam. Ordinarily it
would require a lot of hassle just to find books under this topic but stores
like amazon not only give you a long list of such books but also tell you a
lilttle bit about both the author and the book. Likewise if you have a
certain title in mind you can easily type in the key words and most
posssibly you will find the title.
And you do this at your convenience maybe in the middle of the night.
My place and My time is the new mantra of consumers now.
For general readers or say researchers, books are more of a commodity but
for say collectors, they can be termed as specialized products but again
amazon provides you with both the standard paperback and hardbound copies.
