Furthermore, if I remove either the "Fill" or "Clear Outside" command it is the 
Selection that is used, not the created and selected Ellipse. If I select 
manually the line of code and execute it, the Ellipse is used.

On my windows the same, but if I switch the lines to

run("Fill", "slice");
run("Clear Outside", "slice");

I get slice 50 white, rest black

Hm... in my linux install it does not fill slice 50 with the foreground colour 
either. :-( All those slices are black with a red overlay.
