No. And this, even if Imail web msging was perfectly stable, is a
serious scaleability issue as it seems so many Imail operators seem
to be free-mail wannabe's.

It's not too hard, and "many" have reported doing it, to scale Imail
smtp/pop services up to 100K+ accounts, even one reporting 250K
accounts and 25 gb of traffic/day with hardware found in the
surplus/used PC shops.

But you'll see msgs in the Imail forum with people on dual 900 MHz +
1 gb RAM + RAID5 SCSI struggling to provide web mail-only to 10K
accounts. So Imail's scaleabiltiy is seriously imbalanced.

We'll have to wait until Imail7

(which looks like slipping into calendar 2001, although they owe
their annual maintenance customers 1 major upgrade/calendar year.
Imail 6 was 1999, nothing apparently in 2000 but bug fixes to 6. I
figure the smokescreen for this empty 2000 will be Imail7 beta's in
2000, but Ipswitch has not gotten the open beta message, yet)

to see whether they achieve balance.

Personally I want them to offer a web mail option where Web msging
can be offloaded to satellite machine(s) leaving the mother ship
exclusively with smtp/pop/ldap. ie, Imail as backend mailbox server
to any number of web messaging front-end servers. Then you're HotMail
technical dream will true and you'll have just the freemail business
plan nightmare to worry about. vbg!!

You can do the satellite machines for Imail now with www.kbmail.com
or www.mailstudio.com or www.squirrelmail.org but you lose Ron's
templates. Mailstudio is a pretty damn nice design and feature set
(on-line demo is complete), but I figure Ron's plans for Imail 7
templates will be excellent.
