Rob,
What version of IMail are you running, and what are the specs on your box?
Our demo at http://killerwebmail.com is running on a PIII-500 plain-vanilla
server. I've been using it here with an average dial-up line on my vacation
with decent performance.
The initial frameset, with 7 individual html pages, certainly takes longer
to load than just one html page. Once it's loaded, however, most users find
the interface easier and quicker to use for reading mail and composing mail
than the frameless version, since there is less Back button usage and fewer
reloads of the message list. And the new message composition windows that
pop-up are a big help, letting users go back to their list, and letting our
system maintain their session, while one or more messages are started but
not yet sent.
Two things you can do to speed it up: 1) remove one or both of the top
frames (the logo and the banner frame) by changing your
config_TopFramePreference.cgi file to a 1 or 0 as the ReadMe file suggests,
or 2) take the js_LeftFrame.cgi file, put it on a *real* webserver (e.g.,
IIS on a different box), then change the IMail Includes tag pointing to it
in the top of the chgfwd.html file into a JavaScript referenced <script>
file tag. (This will allow most browsers to cache that JS file so it won't
be reloaded every 10 minutes as the left frame refreshes. If you're not
comfortable with HTML and basic JavaScript, you probably don't want to
attempt this modification.)
Hope this helps,
Ron
