Omar,
I dont mind you getting on your soapbox but when you dont mention anything
you actually did I dont see how this gives guidance to anybody.

Hardware is cheap, people are expensive. Having to reboot a server with a
database every 5 days is not my idea of smooth running my a long shot.
Eleminate hardware as an issue first then worry about tuning software.

Rob

Subject: [imail] performance and imail

I have Imail 6.04 with around 20 VERY active domains and more than a 1000
users. I use a combination of Ron's templates and Ipswitch templates. Its
running on a NT4 sp6a P2-400 with 256 RAM. Sharing the machine is also the
webserver, DNS server, SQL server, FTP server.

Although this is definitely not the best setup in the world, everything runs
very smoothly. No problems with anything at all, other than having to
restart the server every 5 days because IIS memory usage mushrooms.

<soapbox>
I have done A LOT of tweaking on the operating system level and the
application level. By that I mean disabling a lot of unnecessary services,
applications, and tweaking some numbers in the registry. I suggest everyone
does the same.

I hate to break the news, but throwing more horse power at applications
doesn't always solve the problem, and definitely does not replace the need
for tweaking both on the operating system level and the application level.
</soapbox>

I hope this gives some guidance for people who are trying to narrow down
performance problems, and not go the quick easy solution of buying and
upgrading the hardware.

Hmm.. on a webmail mail list... could the topic dare to be about
web mail??

We run imail with a customized version of ron's original templates
on a p350 - around 1500 people use the web interface every day -
around 15,000 page shows and another 3-5,000 use the smtp or
pop3. We have around 50 domains right now. No real problems or
slow down issues.

And why take it seriously? It is the easiest money I make every
month.
