DNS with a secondary mail server will only hold mail if the primary server
becomes unavailable. It will not provide mail boxes or logins. For
reduncancy you will need set up a cluster server. Information on one is
mirrored to the other. It is NOT inexpensive. With Win2K you will need
Advanced Server (2 copies). Two copies of IMail. You might want to consider
the Compaq Cluser Server (Two servers in one box with shared access to drive
space. Lots of redundant parts. $15 - $20,000. There are many ways to
accomplish it but your job gets more complicated.

that is a dns issue. I only know about win2k dns so bear with me.. Make
sure that in your dns setup for EACH domain name that you setup (2) mail
settings... the default one is set as priority 10 and the failover would be
20 etc.

hello,
I want to make my imail server redundant i.e. able to failover to another
box running imail if my customers can't get to box 1. I know Lotus Notes has
built in replication real-time does Imail have something similar, or how is
everyone else doing it?
Thanks,
Brian
