Ron,
My company has built IIS/ASP/SQL Server webmail system
for internal use. Actually, it is a unified messaging
server... (well sort of, we kind of "borrowed" the
fax and voicemail feature from another online service
but integrated into our system).
We had envisioned the server as a two phase project.
One: make it work. Two: make it fast. We haven't
really reach phase two yet ( the project was fun,
but didn't pay the bills ). For phase two, we were
thinking of also using MSMQ (microsoft's message
queuing server) to allow for background processing
of sending and receiving emails, etc.
