We've been working on this all day, we don't have a solution, but a temporary relief. All your web servers on port 80 are most likely being affected by an increase and response in traffic. The request is small but then your web server returns a 404 error page, which could be 300-400 bytes. if you get enough requests, that could be a huge load. What we did is simply created a blank html page to return as the default 404 error page. Our traffic was reduced by 50-70%. Just a suggestion!
