Because the whole subject is rather touchy at this moment and only the negative comments appear to be weighing in so please don't start a "flame" discussion on this thread because of my reply. I'm really just looking for neutral ground while this rolls out.
I think any discussion is worth a bit of balance and I think Ipswitch deserves some credit for going ahead with the development of a product that will have many takers. Compared to other "commercial" antivirus packages the new Imail antivirus solution is not expensive if you have serveral thousand seats as it is a "single-cost" Unlimited license. For the small user Declude is still a contender and I think Ipswitch should get some credit for not going up against Declude in the same price range. I've not seen anything from Ipswitch slamming Declude and I doubt Ipswitch would want to see Declude put out of business nor is that their objective from what I know. Declude is a great solution which works extremely well and having a much higher priced benchmark is likely going to be good for Declude not bad.
I also don't think Ipswitch should take as much heat as they are for trying to offer an anti-virus solution as well as trying to move into the larger enterprise market. Let the market decide if their pricing is reasonable or not and go from there. To date I've not seen Ipswitch say that anyone "has" to purchase their anti-virus solution.
And yes, I will agree that Ipswitch can improve on their support in some cases as well perhaps do a better job on some of their bug fixes but I don't think they should be vilified like another Microsoft just because they are looking to expand their product line. Let's see what happens and go from there. Ipswitch needs sales to run their business so if their pricing and functionality are not where they should be then the market will force them to respond.
Let's close this off without me getting involved in an extended discussion but surely there are some good points to this new release that are also worthy of comment.
