[imail] SQL Backend

Can anyone point me towards info on how to tie Imail into a SQL backend.  Currently creating a site that will give people access to email based an their username and password.  I need the ability for them to log into the site and read and send email from the site.  I understand this is going to require code, but I need to know how Imail works to write the code.  Can anyone help.   Thanks in advance Bill
