I spent a number of hours on this trying to figure it out until I finally
called Ipswitch support. Igor(the tech we spoke with) was VERY
knowledgeable in this area. He walked us through every step on the phone
and then BAM! it worked like a charm. What I did originally was create the
table myself(per the specs) and then have IMail use it. IMail didn't seem
to like this so I dumped that table and had IMail create the table for me
since it seemed to know what it liked. It of course created a table called
abc_def_com(based on hostname of the IMail machine) so I didn;t want to use
that in my ASP code. I renamed the table to 'Users' and then had to setup
IMail again to point to this new table. It worked like a charm.
I got numerous Dr. Watson errors on iadmin.exe when IMail didn;t like my
data table. Since I did the steps listed above....no problems. I wasn;t
sure exactly which services to stop during the table rename....so I stopped
them all, made my changes, and then restarted them. I've had no trouble
since....

OK, just to ensure I have this right, jump through all the
hoops again setting up a DB, ODBC and IMail, using the
required field first (I had that, in fact had not yet added
any of my own fields is there any particular order, I did it
as per the dialogue when configuring the database.
Then start and stop All the mail services? to get the DB to
kick in, then I should be able to re-access the database to
add my fields and add cold Fusion queries I need to add
modify delete data records.
Ironically that is the very purpose I am evaluating the
product for a Free Email system for the Guernsey Community,
our State owned Teleco (I am their consultant) are
introducing a free Islandwide service, and we need the DB as
with Cold fusion we will be controlling all manner of
peripherals such as business pages, phone directories and all
sorts of good stuff, but if I cannot get the thing to work
we are snookered, certainly with IMail and that would be a
shame it is a great product.
