Many of the top name "Anti-Virus" companies have Anti Virus mail gateways. F-PROT at www.datafellows.com, McAfee at www.mcafee.com and Norton's at www.symantec.com all sell E-Mail gateways. They are SMTP boxes/software packages that receive your inbound mail, scan it for virus infection, and if clean... pass it on to your real mail server that sits safely behind that service. This requires that you run your IMAIL server on another port (if run on the same machine) which is easy enough to set up. There are lot's of other good Mail gateway products out there, these are just the ones I came up with off the top of my head. Seems to me like that would be easier than trying to scan certain files, directories or whatever and more effective too.
