Its because message one doesn't exist. Some of our agency offices use VPOP
and have the same problem. If I telnet into the mail server and do a LIST
command, it will show the list of messages with the message numbers. Then I
issue a RSET command and it removes deleted messages and renumbers them
all..starting with 1.
I believe you should be able to modify your pop client to either do a list
command and attempt to retrieve only the message numbers that it states
exist or issue a RSET prior to requesting the retrieval of message number 1.
