Thanks Vaughn. After climbing through three layers of support at Mindspring,
I found out that they are filtering port 25 to anything but their mail
servers.  Trying to prevent spam from originating on their network. I am
shopping for a new ISP...

Next time you talk to the router specialist ask him to let you connect the
way he is... dial in to his Net and then telnet to your box.  If it does not
work he is full of BBBBSSSSS.  It happens... If he is right and the
Mindspring connection still does not work, make sure the router is not set
up to block address ranges from certain ports as that could (in Cisco's old
IOS) cause intermit screw ups.  Otherwise just dump Mindspring as they use
GTE for almost all of their dial up the Mspring tech wouldn't know if he was
telling you the truth or not.
