I looked at this for a while tonight. I am sort of curious about
the function of the auto-restart. Sounds good in theory. Service
is not responding, jump start it. However in the real world of
NT, when a service is loaded up heavily it blows off most queries
for response.
For example I have a old 6 disc CD Changer. When it has
a cartridge in it and I load Windows Explorer, NT quieries
all six disk before it refreshes the screen. Take a look at
the blank screen and say "Oh my goodness, Exploring My
Computer is Not Responding." Well, no, Exploring My
Computer is reading my super slow CD Changer. In a few
it will come around and Task Manager is again happy with
the results.
So, apply this same theory to the Imail services. It is going
to happen. Service is going to be busy and ignore the query
like a complain to bellsouth.net. Look at this snip from today's
log from our server. At no time during these queries
was our server crashed. Just busy.
