Some time ago, I put this question to the list and to IMail Support.
We need to translate some buttons to Portuguese. It should be an easy job,
because reading IMail help (regarding buttons in the templates), I've found:
"Value is the actual text that appears on the button, in the hyperlink, or
next to the check box.
You can edit the Value to CHANGE THE TEXT TO WHATEVER YOU WANT."
In AUTORESP.HTML file, I read:
"IMAIL.UpdateButton.Update - Tag is "IMAIL.UpdateButton" which is a
prompt definition. "Update" is THE TEXT TO
BE
PLACED ON THE BUTTON.
"
But when I changed it to IMAIL.UpdateButton.Mostrar (or whatever else than
Update) I get an error message.
We wasted a lot of time trying to make it work...
Now, here is the final words from IPSwitch:
"Ricardo,
You are modifying a 'Tag' whose action is the .UPDATE portion and that
action
REQUIRES that .UPDATE, and cannot, at this time, be changed. Sorry.
"
So, the POORLY designed Web Messaging system isn't even consistent from one
object to another.
And my customers will have to deal with English-named buttons in some pages.
Before we start another thread like "IMail is a great package" I must say I
think IMail *is* a great software, but with a poor web package.
And Web Messaging was one of the main reasons to us to switch from
Linux-Sendmail-Qpopper to IMail (the other is the easy administration and
tight integration with our NT-based packages).
I know it's our fault if we just took a glance in it at evaluation time.
But this advertisement lead us to it: "Customize your web mail interface by
editing HTML templates and changing graphics files"
Well, *surely* it's not as easy.

Ricardo Freire, MCP
