Since nobody has responded yet, my 2 cents:

I don't think we have any real control on file naming or logging periods.
(Check pp. 225-226 in the manual.)  Not a big deal, but my dailies are
SYSMMDD instead of LOGMMDD.  How about combining the files  at the end of
the month into your LOGMMYY file, then deleting the individual daily files?
 Maybe better than nothing. You might even be able to batch the process and
schedule it.

Yes, there could be a problem, from I what can tell.  However, I move my
dailies to a separate directory (LOG1998 and LOG1999) at the end of each
month.  I like to keep the spool directory as clean as possible.
