Hi,

I just finished up a migration of our primary mail domain from IMail to
sendmail (free version) on FreeBSD. We were having too many issues with
webmail and speed issues. IMail is still the mail server for 200 or so
virtual domains.
I moved just under 12,000 users to the new box and did it in about 4 hours
total and managed to move all user info and main.mbx. I chose not to move
any IMAP info and that only affected about 170 customers who were
pre-notified.
We are using IMP/Horde web interface from http://www.horde.org (free) and it
works great.
Anyway, just wanted to let the list know that migration is not only possible
but actually quite manageable if planned out. If anyone else is considering
such an undertaking, I would be happy to share my migration scripts.

PS - Don't get me wrong - I still like IMail and still use it. I just don't
believe Ipswitch when they say 80,000 users scale on it. With my virtuals
and primary together, I had around 13,000 users and the machine was SLOOOOW
for both POP users and administrative tasks. My SMTP is a different box
entirely and the IMail box is no sluggard - dual PPro 200/512k, 1GB RAM,
27GB in RAID5. I'll admit I was using IMail registry accounts, but I think
the conversion to sendmail was far easier than trying to convert to ODBC
would have been, and now I have a much more customizable web interface, a
more stable OS, and complete remote administrative capabilites.

PPS - for a peek, try http://webmail.hitter.net and use username imail,
password imail - still in progress, so comments via email are welcome.
There are currently many features not enabled, like address book and
subfolders, but they are coming.
