I have a severe problem with IIS 4 running on NT 4. It keeps crashing
(inet.exe) with a Dr. Watson.

I believe the problem is partly self-inflicted (it started after some
"routine" software updating/maintenance over the long weekend).

I am in the process of preparing a complete new server "clean" and
transferring over, but in the meantime, I am trying to keep the existing
server running.

Every few hours, IIS stops with a Dr. Watson access violation/exception. I
have written a simple batch file to restart it ("NET START W3SVC"), since it
will restart and keep running for a while each time.

However, I found that when it crashes, the Dr. Watson dialog box is open on
the screen (with an "OK" and "Cancel" prompt) and the apparently the batch
file won't work because NT "thinks" the process is still running when the
batch file tries to restart.

It appears that until I manually clear the Dr. Watson dialog box, the task
or process is still "running". Is there any way I can STOP Dr. Watson from
appearing and simply let the IIS service stop so my batch file can
automatically restart it?

Right now, I have to have someone constantly watching the server screen and
manually restarting every few hours.

I apologize for using this list, but in the past I have seen a lot of IIS/NT
expertise and responses are much faster than the general Microsoft lists...
