Perhaps someone can help on this one. I have set up Windows 98 with Outlook Express 5
at my house. Yesterday, I was receiveing AND sending email to my accounts on my
company's iMail server -- no problem. My connection is through Mindspring. Tonight,
I can still receive email from my accounts, but when OE5 tries to send mail out, the
error comes back:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'bob', Server: 'mail.sounddata.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E
I have checked on Ipswitch's and Microsoft's sites for info. There was one on
Microsoft's that had this very error, but it talked about Dr. Soloman being the cause,
but I don't have Dr. Soloman or any anti-virus running right now -- this system is
just coming online. There was also another KB that indicated that the SSL checkbox
might get confused and that you needed to make sure it was unchecked, exit OE and then
restart. I checked it, exited, restarted, unchecked it, exited, restarted but it
still won't send.
By the way, all accounts that I have setup on this machine (except my Mindspring
address) are having this problem -- which means I'm not able to respond to business
mail here.
So, does this ring any bells -- can any offer other possibilities?
Thanks.
Bob Ferguson
