You must me thinking about duplicate users, not an alias vs
userid precedence issue. Neither the Imail Administrator nor the
User Manager nor the Web interface warn you that there is an
alias that has the same name as the userid being created. So,
the when you create a userid with a name that is already an
alias he/she never gets mail.

The same problem occurs the other way (an alias is created
with the same name as a userid that already exists). In that
case the user stops receiving email after the alias is created
since the alias has a higher precedence than the user.
