Kirk,
Yes Win2K is pretty good. I've been running both Win2K Professional RC-2 &
Advanced Server RC-2 on two machines here for the last month. While I've
not seen a noticable speed increase overall in the operating systems, it
does make Win NT administrators' lives a lot easier. Just about all of the
admin tools have been moved into the MMC (Microsoft management console)
interface which makes real remote administration at least a 100 times easier
to work with. Another service that I was pleased to see gone in this
release is WINS. WINS has now been replaced by DNS. However Microsoft says
that for networks that still rely on WINS there will be some type of
backwards compatibility.
Usually, I'm always being plagued with users calling in about DLL problems
on Win NT & 98. Fortunately in this release Microsoft did something right:
the operating system now actually protects crucial system files (including
DLLs). The user can still delete the crucial files, but within moments the
file simply returns back to its former location even if the file is deleted
and doesn't go to the recycle bin. Overall, it's really worth upgrading!
Randy

What sort of problems did you have? I've not played with Win2K myself but
most of what I've heard from others using it has been very good.
