Joel, 
The period  "."  is a valid character for userids & aliases in v4.0x, even though the 
help files and documentation doesn't show it.  This does work in the IMail 
Administrator, User Manager, and Web mail 
interface.
Are you experiencing a "v6.02 only" problem?
