Hi, I declare today the day of the Queue Manager..
After updating our anti spam files, we're restarting the smtp and queue manager via a program alias. For the frist ever, the queue manager service was not in the mood to shutdown. In the service applet the services was visible as "pending stopping". I had to kill the service brutally with kill.exe, the only choice in situation like this. I startet the service and the queue manager startet to deal with about 500 files in the spool directory. At this stage the services needed 100% of both cpu's and it also needed about 300 megs of RAM. The general response time of the server was very high. Quite interesting. After 10 minutes the spool directory was almost empty and the load of the cpu and RAM looked normal. My questions: - What was the reason for the unsuccessful shutdown of the service? I never had that before. - A few hundred spool files stresses queue manager like hell. Our site is very small, a few hundred domains. What happens to a big site in circumstances like i had? This cleanup task would use hours, or am i wrong? -- Mit freundlichen GrĂ¼ssen -------------------------------------------- Merlin Consulting Martin Schaible Bahnhofstrasse 27 CH-8702 Zollikon Phone: +41 44 391 30 00 Fax: +41 44 391 32 49 Mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] URL: http://www.merlinconsulting.ch Support: http://support.merlinconsulting.ch GPS: N47 20.235 E8 34.226 -------------------------------------------- News - Neue Produkte: .:.
