We've recently had some problems with AOL blocking messages from our server. We're investigating whether it's related to some Imail account rules setup to 'forward' mail to AOL accounts (which is a problem I saw mentioned on this list a few weeks ago), but that's a separate issue...
In the midst of trying to fix the problem quickly, we submitted a whitelist request to AOL, but received the following response almost immediately: ------------------------ Your Whitelist request has been denied due to a low bounce acceptance rate. Bounce emails include the reason for mail delivery failure and are sent to the Return-Path included in the original email. Prior to making another request, please ensure that the Return-Path headers are properly set to an email address in your domain. ----------------------- I didn't see any articles in the Ipswitch knowledgebase on this topic, but google turned up the following article: http://jamesthornton.com/writing/imail-envelope-sender.html If true, this explains the response from AOL. (Although, I realize it may or may not have anything to do with AOL blocking messages from us.) Can anyone confirm or deny what's claimed in that article? Is this another RFC 'gray' area like the RFC 2821 problem we ran into with CBL and Comcast a few months ago? Is this fixed in any recent version of Imail server? Is there anyway around this problem?
